The Earthquake in Haiti, Charity & What You Can Do

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

As  haunting images of mass grave reminiscent to what we’ve seen of the holocaust, along with the faces of a nation left starving and without the basic necessities  are plastered across the news, the world’s population is left in shock, scrambling to do what they can for the survivors of the devastating Haitian Earthquake. There is no way to tell how many people have actually lost their lives at this point, however the estimates  range anywhere from the 50,000  (American Red Cross) to 200,000 ( Lieutenant General Ken Keen). As each day passes the news grows darker and less promising. 1500 rescue personnel and as many as 115 search and rescue dogs have been deployed to the area, but with 85% of the buildings in Leogane destroyed and 60% of the town of Jacmel leveled it may be some time before we can get a an accurate picture of just how devastating the aftermath is. Protect Me? Protect Me Not?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

There is a bit of a frenzy going on, that much is undeniable. I implore those involved to think carefully about what is said. I agree 100% with the sentiments stated, I even mentioned it  previously but trust me when I say that even the best intentions can be misconstrued depending on a  person’s mood. In dealing with stalkers of my own and stalkers of my grandfather I know first hand that not only can the undesirables be off putting but the response of others can as well. What we all share is a positive thing, a group of strong intelligent and highly talented women who were brought together during times of turmoil, I fear though that if the cause of this frenzy is handled hastily it may jeopardize this.

Let me try to put it better, you are a highly sought after entertainer with a large fan base. In addition to a general fan base there is a select group that brings a smile to your face through videos and pleasant interaction. They are not off putting at all and are very loyal. So far so good. Now imagine if you will that another fan comes along and is demonstrating some less than stellar behaviour. As an entertainer you know that you cannot be too rude because every fan is a gift, (more…)

Bubyes Management

Friday, January 15th, 2010

The clock is ticking and come February 17th the contract with my current management is up… I have no interest in renewing. I am a little unsure of how this is going to work, though I suspect it’ll be like the “relationship theory”. You know, when you are single you cannot find someone to save your life, yet when you are attached everyone is knocking at your door. That’s the infamous relationship theory and I really hope it doesn’t end up being the case.

While under contract I had several more lucrative offers and of course had to turn them down, as my free agent status approaches I have… nothing. Well almost nothing, a lot of adult offers but since I wouldn’t dare go that route it counts as nothing to me. Common sense says “stick with what you have” but what I have is representation that took me from awesome independent flicks and shoved me into mainstream “extra” parts.  I am sorry but I fail to see how going from major speaking roles to “guest at a party” is a step up, or why anyone would even want their clients to take on such roles when they have proven themselves to be able to keep up with the pros. She said it was to get more “American exposure” and to be “credited with big named actors” but that seems cheap to me. Maybe my attitude is the problem, I have NO desire to be a “celebrity”, I just like to create. I call it passion, she calls it “unmotivated”.

Guess we’ll see
