Vaughn Belak- The Man Who Changed The Face of Horror

    Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Belak’s new spin on classic horror, monsters and all things dark has garnered him quite the cult following over the last decade! From the most obscure and seldom mentioned creatures of the night to traditionally famous monsters, Belak takes great care revamping reinventing and recreating them with his sui generis technique.

Like many artist’s, he does not classify his art in any one style however unlike most artists, his work simply cannot be classified. His paintings have a dash of surrealism in that they appear to be something one would see in a dreamlike state, yet also have hints of post impressionism, abstract figurative, street art, Orphism and expressionism. Most of all, they provoke the viewer feel something.  He truly has created his own genre.

When viewing his work, one cannot help but picture the characters he creates in a motion fantasy film. Vaughn Belak’s creatures are unique in that each subject displays a sentiment that you would not normally attribute to a monster, be it loneliness, sorrow, heartbreak, love, vulnerability or innocence. This rare aptitude to humanize has truly changed the face of horror and brought to light the attraction and appeal our society has to darker side of life.

The quality I like most about Belak’s work is that at first glance you see horror, but after looking deeper you may just see yourself.  I cannot wait to see what he comes up with next; this man is a true master of his craft. If you are in the Orlando area, Belak will be unveiling his newest paintings at Will’s Pub on November 20th, 2009 from 6- 9 PM. If you want learn more about this spellbinding painter or his   work, you can visit http://vaughnbelak.com. In a world of “cookie cutter” artists, it is refreshing to see individuality come to life.

I Like Layaway So Screw You

    Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

I mentioned to a friend to day that I was starting my holiday shopping, we discussed toy trends, how much we spend per child etc. I then told her I loved K-Mart because they had layaway. She looked at me as if I were a leper and said “Umm you’re not poor and you’re not trailer trash so why would you be associated with that?”. I was so annoyed, there are plenty of reasons why I use layaway for holidays and quite frankly none of them involve the payment plan. It got me think how many other people held this opinion and to my amazement, nearly everyone I asked said they same thing “poor people do it”.
Well, that is not the case, and this post was written to tell you why, so this one’s for you K-Mart… you’re welcome.

First and foremost, the main reason that I use layaway is because I have toddlers. If any of you have toddlers you know that they can find absolutely everything and anything. On top of the refrigerator? Found it. In the closet? Found it. Under th beds? In a shed? In the basement? Found it, found it and found it. For the longest time, they discovered birthday gifts, Christmas presents, Halloween candy etc. and I would have to either re-buy items, or try to explain why they couldn’t have it yet. Can you say hassle? Trying to pry toys out of 2 screaming angry toddlers hands… not so much fun. With layaway though, you can buy and store the presents at the store. Something tells me that my little 2 and 4 year old dare devils are not about to hot wire my car and GPS Kmart to find their goodies… though stranger things have happened. So reason #1? STORAGE (more…)

    Thank You TonyB

    Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

There is a lot to be said about Antony Berkman, founder of BlogCatalog.com. He is quite possibly one of

the most fascinating individuals I have ever come into contact with. Weather it be cheering me up on a “chutes” day or advising me on a personal issue, Tony is always willing to lend a hand. Not to mention he has one of the coolest accents I have ever heard in my life.

I have absolutely nothing but good things to say about him and his projects. Whilst lately I have been caught up in my own personal life thus rendering me a lousy friend, I consider him to be a friend of mine and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank him and spread the word.  I would suggest that everyone check out him and his various projects… like now. Thanks again Tony for just being cool as fuck
